LAKE OF THE WOODS ORIGINAL WEEKLY FISHING REPORT, February 28th, 2016
Not a whole lot of change to report this week, lots of those pesky Window Shoppers again! Anglers report marking plenty of fish but they are being selective about when they bite. The best strategy to get them to bite is a rattle jig in one hole and a dead stick with a plain hook in the other. Prepare to have time for socializing and telling those tall fishing tales! We continue to scout for new locations and a better bite, so we will see where this week takes our houses.
A big move this week has us camped out from Pine Island out to about 2 ½ miles in 18-29 feet of water. The ride out is shorter, which leaves more time for fishing! It also allows us take advantage of the early and late bites along the shoreline.
The weather today is 25 degrees with snow showers and wind, and according to the forecasts, it’s supposed to drop below zero tonight. We expect highs in the single digits to teens for most of the week with partly cloudy/ partly sunny skies and lows just below zero for the overnights. And then we’re back up into the 30’s for highs next weekend. We hope to see this weather trend continue so we can fish as long as possible into March.
Summer rate cards will hit the mailboxes starting this week or if you just can’t wait, check out our website.
