Lake of the Woods Original Weekly Fishing Report!
The majority of success has been on the lake this past week

The majority of success has been on the lake this past week, although, there are plenty of Walleye in the river. The major school of fish is still outside the Lighthouse Gap. Anchored and jigging on the lake is allowing for smaller size jigs, the river current is strong right now and many are using heavy weights and spinners while anchored. Live or frozen Emerald Shiners are the go-to bait.
Yesterday was our 10th annual Chili Bowl fishing contest and a common statement by many of the contestants was that most fish caught were in the 19.5 to 28 inch release size. We had another full field of 50 teams for payout. The contest is difficult, even for the experienced angler. All fish must be between 14 and 19.5 inches, so there are no big fish allowed. All fishing must be in the river from the Wheelers Point access to the Timber Mill access. Many teams without the full 6 fish limit opt to take zero and not bring their fish to the scales. This may be one of the most difficult of tournaments, while at the same time, the rules allow for a fun and social local event atmosphere. With a small acceptable slot size and limited fishing area, the contest is fair to any angler with just about any size or style fishing boat. There have been Professional Anglers who have taken zeros in this tournament. With that said, CONGRATS! to all the Anglers who competed and especially those who finished at the top of the list. It is an accomplishment!
The forecast for the week is 30’s to 50’s. Don’t forget to bring your quality rain gear and warm clothes.
